Loyalty card benefits include savings of up to £500 for 7 million RAC members

Raphaels Bank, a leading player in the prepaid cards market has partnered with Grass Roots, the customer engagement business, to deliver the first prepaid loyalty card programme in the roadside recovery industry for the RAC, the leading motoring services provider. The RAC Member Benefits card is available to anyone purchasing breakdown cover or insurance including the 7 million plus RAC members in the UK and launches this spring backed by a major national marketing campaign. Raphaels Bank is the issuer and BIN sponsor for the innovative new product.

Combining a loyalty card with a prepaid offering, The RAC Member Benefits card is a VISA debit card, offering customers the opportunity to save money at 60 well-known shops and restaurants with up to 15% cashback. Raphaels Bank as BIN sponsor provides access to the VISA payment network.

Anyone buying a new 12-month RAC UK Breakdown policy, RAC Car, Home or Motorbike insurance will be issued with the RAC Member Benefits card by Raphaels, pre-loaded with £20, £50 or £100** depending on how many products they have purchased. To earn up to 15% cashback RAC members can simply use the debit card to pay for goods and services from the partner brands. And because it’s a prepaid card, further funds can be added as required.

The partnership brands currently include Asda, Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Homebase, Currys PC World, Goldsmiths, Strada, Zizzi, Café Rouge and Laithwaites Wine.

“Through our partnership with Raphaels Bank and Grass Roots, we have created a unique loyalty programme for our members and new customers,” says Alex Heath of RAC head of membership. “The prepaid card allows customers to add funds to their account and then use the RAC card like a debit card in partner stores. As they spend, they accumulate points, which could earn them as much as £500* cashback, over a year.

“RAC is the first breakdown assistance provider to deliver a prepaid loyalty card scheme, helping our customers benefit from a benefits programme that’s easy to understand and offers clear value.”

Andy Downes, Head of Prepaid Card Services at Raphaels Bank, comments, “We are delighted to welcome such a well-respected brand to the Raphaels portfolio. This new contract really underlines our position as a leader and innovator in the growing prepaid card market. With Grass Roots managing the programme, we are certain that RAC customers will benefit from the rewards available to them, which will also strengthen customer affinity to the brand.”
