Leaders in online and mobile gambling, SuperCasino, have commented on new predictions for the economic upside potentially brought about by regulated online gambling in California.

It has been predicted that regulated online poker in California could bring in around $800 million for the state’s economy, as well as generate over 2,000 jobs for residents, all by the end of the decade. A new report from Capitol Matrix Consulting has revealed these findings, with the move to legalise internet poker in California predicted to result in $1.91 billion economic output, $845 million state revenue and 2,657 jobs between now and 2020.

Steps have already been made in this direction, with two new bills dedicated to legalising internet poker recently introduced in the state. If passed, California would be the third US state to legalise a form of online gaming, after Nevada and New Jersey.

Mike Genest, Capitol Matrix Consulting partner, said: “Legalising internet poker will increase California’s total economic output by more than $300 million and add more than 1,900 jobs in the first year alone. Our estimate is based in part on our review of previous estimates of proposals to legalise internet poker and in part on new data provided by the industry experts that take into account the changes in the illegal internet poker market since ‘Black Friday’.”

Leading online gambling providers, SuperCasino, have commented on these predictions and hope that the potential for such an economic boost will encourage the state to legalise online poker. A spokesperson for the company said:

“Job creation and tax revenue have always been major selling points for online gambling regulation, and it is good to see that California is edging nearer and nearer to legalisation for internet poker. News has been building around this outcome for some time, and predictions of the potential benefits the state might enjoy can only push it along even further. We look forward to seeing how this progresses.”
