London, UK – June 12th , 2014 – Digital solutions company Kainos has expressed enormous pride in the part it has played in bringing about more than £200 million in Government cost savings in the 2013-14 financial year as a result of Digital by Default initiatives.

These allow government departments to deliver important information and services to the public online. The savings, announced yesterday by the Efficiency and Reform Group (ERG) in London, contribute to a total of £14.3 billion saved by the Government overall compared with a 2009-2010 baseline.

Around £200 million has been saved by improving digital services and moving more services online, ensuring that citizens’ experiences are simpler, clearer and faster. The Government has also radically overhauled technology spend to get the best possible value for money. For example, £62 million was saved by bringing Directgov and BusinessLink websites onto GOV.UK.

Kainos has a strong pedigree of providing digital solutions to the Government and the wider public sector. The company is currently involved in several of the 25 high-profile exemplar projects. It is also engaged directly by Government Digital Services (GDS), for which it has helped deliver projects for the Cabinet Office including Individual Electoral Registration (IER), enabling citizens to register to vote online.

This project, which requires integration with the core electoral management system, is now available to all eligible voters in the UK.

Commenting on the new Government figures, Brian Gannon, Head of Corporate Development, said, “Everyone at Kainos can be very proud of our role in contributing to these savings, which are of benefit to citizens, to public servants and to taxpayers. We look forward to continued engagement with GDS and other central government departments as a trusted digital technology provider.”
