The competition required entrants to design an item of men’s or women’s knitwear and send in the finished pattern with two photographs.

Emma Wright’s winning design plays on the contrast of soft and raw textures translated into knit, the garment is very wearable with fun but delicate details. The open back and bow fastening, which sits at the back or front neck adds a feminine feel to the modern garment. Whilst the muted colour palette is brightened by a contrast colour and the yarn, Debbie Bliss Paloma, creates a light and nicely draped garment.

The competition was judged by a panel of knitting experts including iconic hand knitting pattern designer Debbie Bliss; Emma Kasyan, Head of Knitwear for renowned London Fashion Week knitwear designer Emilio de la Morena; Kate Carter, editor of Life&Style at; journalist, craft writer and author, Perri Lewis; Stefanie Rycraft-Jones, Presenter from Fashion One TV and Edward Griffith of

Perri Lewis says about Emma’s winning design “I like seeing the journey Emma made from the source material to the final piece. The colour palette is great - the muted black white and grey shows off the turquoise brilliantly and I can image people swapping that for other colours they like. Because the back is tied together I believe it will mean that knitters achieve a better fit more easily. I can imagine buying this on the high street.”

The judging panel announced their ten finalists last week and today Emma Wright was announced as the winner. Emma will have the opportunity to professionally finish her pattern with the support of Emma Kasyan and Debbie Bliss ready to be published and sold on the website. All profits generated by sales of the pattern will go to the winning designer. The prize also includes work experience with Emilio de la Morena in advance of his S/S London Fashion Week show in September and a cash prize of £1000.
