London, Monday, 31st July 2000 - Elderstreet Investments today announced that is has completed a £2.5 million investment in Caplin Systems Plc - formerly Citynet Plc - pioneer of the real-time web. Caplin’s unique RTTP - Real Time Trading Protocol - enables financial institutions and dot coms to distribute and deliver streaming market data via ordinary web browsers. Elderstreet now has a 10% minority stake in the business.

As part of the transaction, the existing management team, led by Paul Caplin and Michael Johnson, has completed a demerger of the business from its privately owned parent, Infinet Group Ltd. The new capital structure enables the team to exploit the market opportunities which exist to significantly expand the business over the coming month.

Caplin’s technology manages and distributes streaming market data and time sensitive financial information, such as share prices, currency rates and news bulletins that update continually via the internet. RTTP is the only protocol which enables organisations to access streaming market data in an ordinary web browser, without needing to refresh any web pages or download any special software or large Java applets. This technology literally pushes the data to end-users so that prices automatically update on-screen within seconds. The company has recently relocated to a bigger office in Finsbury Square, London, EC2, in line with its rapid growth and it has established a New York operation to provide additional support for its US-based clients. Caplin’s RTTP technology has already been adopted by a strong blue-chip client base with existing customers including Nasdaq, the International Petroleum Exchange, the New York Stock Exchange, Dow Jones Newswires and Standard and Poor’s.

Paul Caplin, CEO, Caplin, says: "We are delighted to announce the successful demerger of Caplin and welcome the support provided by Elderstreet. As an independent business, we see strong demand for our technology and solutions, fuelled by the increasing need for real-time streaming information, a rapidly growing private investment culture and the accelerating adoption of RTTP."

Commenting on behalf of Elderstreet Investments, Barnaby Terry says: "Caplin has already built up an impressive blue-chip customer base and track record in effectively delivering real time financial information over the internet. Its pioneering technology, coupled with the company’s recent expansion exposes Elderstreet to one of the most important segments of the market in terms of the provision of real-time financial information and means that it is extremely well placed to capitalise on the growing demand for information which enables anyone involved in financial markets to access the latest market data."
