Siemens Nixdorf hardware performs better and is at least
three to four times cheaper than competitors

According to industry specialist, David Lowrence, Business
Development consultant, of the SAP Sales Centre, Siemens
Nixdorf Enterprise and Personal Computing Division, many
users run the risk of paying too much for the hardware on
which they run SAP's R/3 business application software.

Lowrence bases his assertion on recent SAP certified
benchmark tests, covering main hardware suppliers, which
confirm that Siemens Nixdorf offers the best worldwide R/3
performance in the heterogeneous UNIX/NT environment.

Lowrence comments, "We are always looking for ways to reduce
the total cost of ownership of R/3 systems. Examining the
platform element of project costs, we've calculated the cost
per user by taking the list price of our benchmark hardware
and that of our competitors, and dividing it by the number
of users in the SAP benchmark tests. The Siemens Nixdorf
price per user is one quarter of that for Sun and one third
for Hewlett Packard."

"The benchmark tests, when analysed on this basis, show that
organisations risk paying far too much for hardware that
performs no better than our own. NT platforms are the
fastest growing sector of R/3 implementations, but some
organisations, while appreciating that NT will continue to
take market share, are unwilling to commit their entire
enterprise to the NT environment. NT has not yet produced
the high-water benchmarks for R/3 that UNIX has. Our
heterogeneous solution, playing each technology to its
strengths in the overall architecture, brings the
cost-competitiveness of NT to the high-end R/3
implementation.

"Siemens Nixdorf has considerable experience with SAP
software having installed R/3 at over 1800 major sites
throughout the world. In addition, we offer the most
efficient platforms and best value on homogeneous UNIX and
NT servers in the marketplace."

Notes to editors:

The new world record figures, issed by SAP AG, certify top
R/3 performance for Siemens Nixdorf in a heterogeneous
system environment consisting of both UNIX and Windows NT .

The Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark that was
performed, measuring the number of simultaneously served end
users, produced a record of 5,000 benchmark users for mixed
UNIX/Windows NT environments. In this benchmark, the test
configuration also demonstrated its low, efficient use of
system resources to produce an outstanding price-performance
ratio. Siemens Nixdorf offers a full range of solutions for
heterogeneous R/3 environments.

The SD benchmark is part of the SAP Standard Application
Benchmarks tests and simulates user entries for the SD
component. During recent tests, involving a record 5,000
benchmark users in a heterogeneous environment, the
configuration produced an average dialogue response time of
1.98 seconds. This represents 501,000 fully processed order
items per hour. These values were achieved at Siemens
Nixdorf's Paderborn Benchmark Centre with an RM600 E60
high-end UNIX server as the database server. The benchmark
conforms to all issued rules defined by the SAP Benchmark
Council and was audited and certified by SAP A total of 49
different servers were used for applications (mainly
PRIMERGY 560 servers under Windows NT). Oracle served as the
database.
