agreements fortify Symbol's leadership in market that is
expected to triple in three years

Symbol Technologies has today announced that recent
contracts for its wireless local area network mobile
computing systems will produce more than $40 million in 1998
revenues in a dynamic market that industry analysts expect
to triple in size in three years.

These contracts include new business with CVS Corporation
(NYSE:CVS), the USA's largest retail drug store chain with
4,100 stores, and with Marks & Spencer, the UK's leading
department store chain with 323 European-based stores.
Symbol will install its Spectrum24® wireless infrastructure
and mobile hand-held computers to enhance customer service
and increase accuracy and efficiency for each customer.

"Our Spectrum24 wireless technology improves store
operations," said David Yeh, vice president and general
manager of Symbol's wireless systems division. "For
instance, workers can instantly check an item's inventory
and ordering history by scanning it; a query to the store's
host computer is instantly transmitted over the Spectrum24
network and the computer responds back to the worker with
detailed item information."

Tomo Razmilovic, president and chief operating officer,
Symbol Technologies comments, "We're seeing tremendous
growth in our wireless LAN business across a range of
markets. Spectrum24 supports both data and voice
communications devices so customers who invest in the
technology reap long-term value. Many customers outside of
retailing have chosen this strategic solution for
flexibility and competitive advantage including the New York
Stock Exchange and Boeing Corporation."
