the easy-to-use, cost-effective solution for creating and
hosting e-business Web sites…
To help companies take better advantage of the increasing
number of consumers buying goods and services on the
Internet, IBM has announced the European availability of IBM
HomePage Creator for e-business, an easy-to-use,
cost-effective Web site creating and hosting solution
designed specifically for e-business.
IBM HomePage Creator is an ideal e-business solution for any
size business, but particularly for small to medium size
businesses (SMBs), because it can help them save time and
money when developing e-business Web sites, and because it
is so easy to use. "SMBs will find HomePage Creator for
e-business a valuable tool because they don't need to have
large-enterprise systems or highly-skilled IT people to
implement an e-business solution," said Per Martin
Joeraholmen, Regional Offering Manager - EMEA.
IBM HomePage Creator for e-business provides:
· Expandability: Helps a customer grow their business
without having to completely rebuild their site. IBM
HomePage Creator for e-business can expand the online store
from just a few Web pages and 12 catalogue items to a
complex Web site with 500 catalogue items.
· Easy-to-use technology: Customers build their site online
using their browser to point and click. The new Java 1.1
capabilities provide significantly enhanced performance and
usability for creating Web sites.
· Security: Enhanced, security-rich e-business online order
processing allows a customer to take secure orders including
credit card numbers. IBM HomePage Creator for e-business
also supports certified Payment Service Providers, such as
NetBanx, allowing the customer to incorporate full online
credit card authorisation and settlement from the company's
Web site. Once a consumer has completed the order form and
pressed submit, the information about their order is
encrypted using SSL technology and transmitted to the
appropriate processing network for validation and clearing.
· Language support: Customers can choose a language from a
selection of 13 to create their site in. Also customers can
choose a currency to use from a selection of 17.
"You've heard a multitude of reasons to be on the Internet:
to help your business grow and stay competitive; to stay in
touch with customers and provide better service; to educate
the public in your field of expertise; and, of course, to
make money, are just a few," said Robin Young, general
manager, network services, IBM Global Services EMEA. "IBM
HomePage Creator for e-business can help you do that - and
more. It's a single-source solution that simplifies the
development and management of a company's Web site."
In a recently published report, Forrester Research forecast
that companies selling goods and services online will
generate $4.8 billion in revenue in 1998, and that revenue
will grow 260% to $17 billion by 2001. Unlike many competing
products that provide simple clip art and template guides to
build a Web site, IBM HomePage Creator for e-business is a
very cost-effective and more robust business solution. It
provides for hosting the Web site, creating and posting the
site, and developing e-commerce enabled catalogues.
The IBM HomePage Creator for e-business Web site creation
tool is located entirely on the Internet. Pages are created
online using a point-and-click interface and can be
published with just one click of the mouse -- all without
the use of complicated file transfer tools or HTML coding.
Content can be created quickly and easily, so that the
casual PC user can frequently and conveniently update and
change the site.
IBM HomePage Creator for e-business also provides shopping
basket, on-screen hit counters, catalogues, choice of site
name, support for DNS names and transaction functionality
that enables anyone to conduct business on the Internet. It
also includes, automated site registration on more than 16
search engines to date to help customers increase their
visibility on the Web.
Pricing and availability may vary according to the country.
