New module, totemomail Registered Envelope (TRE), offers solution and peace of mind for Cisco IronPort users facing July 2015 deadline
London, UK – 15th September 2014 – totemo, a leader in secure transfer of electronic business communication and a global Cisco OEM partner, has announced a migration path for businesses affected by the upcoming end-of-life of Cisco’s IronPort Encryption Appliance (IEA).
The migration will be offered via totemomail, totemo’s hybrid encryption gateway and a new module called totemomail Registered Envelope (TRE). TRE is a push encryption module for IEA customers based on Cisco PXE Envelope, Cisco’s push encryption technology. Large attachment handling needs are met by totemo’s totemodata solution. The cryptographic module of each solution is validated to meet the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2.
The migration pathway and solutions will be available directly to businesses and via totemo’s EMEA network of 26 resellers in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
IronPort was acquired by Cisco in 2007 to become part of the Cisco Security Unit. In May 2012, Cisco announced that it would cease support of the IEA and its associated features, effective as of July 20, 2015. This will cease pull functionality based on IEA’s PostX Web Safe and support for IEA customers employing PGP, S/MIME, and large attachment handling. Support for on-box push encryption for PostX Envelope (PXE) will continue via the cloud-based Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES).
The on-premise version of PXE, TRE, is a simple yet elegant migration pathway that will not require customers to re-enroll their current users, cutting the time and disruption of migration. As a result, IT teams at businesses and organisations using IEA can offer their current users a seamless experience - even when accessing existing encrypted emails.
The totemomail platform uses an on-premise approach, meaning encryption keys, user and tracking information for secure messages are exclusively stored locally – essential for organisations unable to leverage the cloud-based Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES).
Dario Perfettibile, CEO of totemo, said: “As a global Cisco partner and encryption leader, totemo has worked tirelessly to ensure that no IronPort Encryption Appliance (IEA) customer needs to worry about access to encrypted emails or to feel vulnerable. Organisations can now take advantage of the power of totemomail ‘on-premise’ Registered Envelope (TRE) alongside Cisco’s ‘Cloud’ Registered Envelope Service (CRES), meeting the need for Cisco IEA customers that want to continue reliably securing sensitive business information in motion with 100% confidence.”
Increasingly strict regulations and compliance standards make it tough to implement robust yet user-friendly email security at organisations of all sizes, regardless of business sector. Violating regulations such as GLBA, HIPAA, SOX, EU DPD, or Basel III has serious consequences ranging from financial penalties and economic damage to a damaging loss of trust from partners and customers.
Email communication is particularly vulnerable to data loss, and many breaches of data privacy policies can be traced back to deficient email security. But despite the obvious shortcomings of, it is unimaginable to stop using email in business communication. Message confidentiality, integrity and authenticity must be ensured with specialist help in the form of reliable secure messaging solutions that protect sensitive information. The totemomail product family – now expanded with the valuable addition of totemomail Registered Envelope - strictly adheres to compliance policies.
