The plug is threatened to be pulled on CCTV cameras in Gorseinon

Leading providers of commercial security, AlertSystems, responds to the news of camera cuts in Gorseinon.

The plug is threatened to be pulled on CCTV cameras in Gorseinon in a bid to save £6,000. Community leaders have been left angered by the move, particularly as they met the cost of most of the cameras covering the area.

There is a fear the cut could lead to an eventual rise in crime. During a meeting of Gorseinon Town Council it was highlighted that if someone were to be attacked, the coverage of the incident would not be available to aid the police.

PCSO Rachael Draisey said during the meeting that the decision was motivated by finances, although police chiefs were opposed to the move.

Gorseinon mayor, Lorraine Davies, has vowed to fight the move. She stated: “These cameras were funded by the council, we need to protest. It’s picked up a lot in Gorseinon; I would be opposed to losing them particularly if someone was attacked due to their absence.”

County councillor in Gorseinon, David Lewis, explained there had been a series of meetings taking place over the matter during the course of the week. Mr Lewis said: “They need to come up with a better alternative than losing all of the cameras, there were around 500 crimes reported in the Gorseinon area.

As providers of CCTV security cameras, AlertSystems takes an interest in industry related news. A spokesperson from the company stated: “The threat of losing CCTV cameras in the Gorseinon area is obviously a cause for much concern. Many businesses may be relying on their presence for suitable protection.

“With the impending loss of these council funded cameras, the best solution would be for the businesses of Gorseinon to invest in commercial CCTV security systems. These cameras would provide businesses owner peace of mind when it comes to security.
