CCTV footage shows a minute-by-minute account of their targeted burglary

The reaction follows a report in the North East Chronicle detailing a raid on an industrial estate that almost resulted in over £500,000 worth of HGVs and their stock being stolen by a group of organised criminals.

CCTV footage shows a minute-by-minute account of their targeted burglary that took place in Billingham in the North East of England and has proved pivotal in their apprehension and arrest. The recordings show the group ram-raiding a yard in what would have been an extremely high-value operation. Thanks to the evidence provided, police have linked the men to a wider conspiracy that spanned the whole country.

All four members of the gang have been jailed for a total of 12 years after they pleaded guilty in court. Through the use of false registration plates to try and avoid the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, they had managed to evade the police after a series of previous raids.

Luckily, an adequate CCTV security system was in place on the industrial estate to ensure that authorities could corroborate their evidence. Without it, it is questionable whether the case would have even made it to court, leaving the accused to continue to operate their network of thievery.

As leading providers for business security systems, a spokesperson for AlertSystems has released a statement following the incident.

“What we have seen in Billingham further emphasises the need for businesses to invest in sufficient security systems.

“Without the implementation of such a system, there is every chance that the criminal group who targeted the industrial estate would not have been apprehended, let alone tried in court. However, through careful, logical planning, the raid was recorded in full and the footage able to be distributed to the relevant authorities with ease. We hope this serves as an important reminder to those companies who have not yet invested in such security networks, they prove themselves to be invaluable assets in criminal instances such as the one we have seen here.”
