The fire is believed to have started just before 11pm on September 12th in Bolton

The reaction follows a report in the Manchester Evening News detailing a large fire that has destroyed a shop and severely damaged the two flats above it.

The fire is believed to have started just before 11pm on September 12th in Bolton, requiring the services of 20 firefighters to bring it under control. Fortunately, nobody was hurt as the residents realised the danger before the properties were engulfed in flames. Similarly, the proprietor of the shop, a local Just Convenience store, had vacated the premises at close of business earlier that day.

The residents of the flats did not report that it was a fire alarm system that led them to be alerted to the imminent danger. The lack of a sufficient alarming setup, while not contributing to any injury or loss of life, is nevertheless a contributing factor to the destruction of the shop in the blaze. The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed.

A spokesperson for AlertSystems, leaders in the field of business security systems, has released a statement following the event.

“The incident we have seen here in Bolton is yet another example of the dangers of neglecting to invest in an adequate fire alarm system.

“While we can all be thankful that nobody was hurt in the fire, the consequences of such a devastating fire will be felt by the shop owner for years to come. Fire is indiscriminate when it comes to who can be affected by it, and needs to be treated with the utmost seriousness. Failing to do so, and leaving your property or premises exposed in the event of one, may leave you in the same avoidable position that this business owner is in today.”
