Plessey receiving award

Plymouth, ENGLAND 24th September, 2014 – Plessey today announced that it has been awarded Large Business of the Year by The Woolwell Centre, a charity-run community centre, which presented its first Local Business and Community Awards to businesses based in Woolwell, Belliver, Bickleigh, Birdcage Farm, Estover, Glenholt, Roborough, and Widewell. Other businesses shortlisted for the award were Wrigley’s, Burt’s Chips, Fine Tubes and Tesco.

The awards, which are designed to raise awareness of the businesses and community organisations north of Plymouth, were announced at a ceremony on Friday evening 19th September. The focus of the evening was to celebrate the wealth of business expertise in the area and to reward those involved in the local community. Plessey was also nominated for Best Corporate Social Responsibility along with Wrigley’s, Burt’s Chips and Tesco.

Ansa Butt, Communications Officer of Plessey, said, “We are honoured to receive this award - it was certainly a very proud moment for everyone at Plessey. We are delighted to be making a valuable contribution to the local community and further afield, recently demonstrated by our Plessey stage 5 of the Tour of Britain cycle event in aid of Prostate Cancer UK where we managed to raise £2,700 for this important charity, whilst contributing to some of our local fantastic pubs and restaurants based along the 105 mile route. We would like to thank the Woolwell Centre for initiating the award and the local nominators for their continued support.”

The judging was made by a panel of trustees and independent experts, including from The Herald, and was inspired by The Herald's Business Awards to give recognition and show appreciation to local businesses for their contributions to the community.

The event will be held annually and was sponsored by Plymouth law firm Gill Akaster LLP.
