the suspect attacked the guard by biting his ear, drawing blood, before fleeing towards the river bridge

Leading provider of commercial security systems, AlertSystems, has commented on the recent news of a shoplifter who bit a security guard’s ear after an incident at the Asda store in Chelmsley Wood.

According to the Birmingham Mail, new CCTV footage has been released of a suspected thief who bit a security guard as he tried to stop the offender stealing from the supermarket.

In a bid to get away, the suspect attacked the guard by biting his ear, drawing blood, before fleeing towards the river bridge. As the suspect fled he dropped the bag containing cosmetics and needles, which are believed to have been stolen.

The guard from the well-known supermarket now faces weeks of waiting for test results to confirm that his long-term health has not been affected. His injuries are not reported to have been severe, however there may be ongoing health concerns due to the suspect’s actions.

Investigating officer, PC Julie Stokes, from West Midlands Police, stated: “We want to trace this man as he was prepared to use physical violence against the security man in a bid to get away.”

The offender is described as black, 5ft 10ins tall, with short black hair, which is receding at the front, of stocky build, wearing an animal print t-shirt and a Batman baseball cap.

As providers of CCTV security systems, AlertSystems takes an interest in industry relevant news. A spokesperson for the company stated: “The new campaign to find the suspect from the Chelmsley Wood supermarket is certainly an interesting one.

“In-store CCTV is present for high quality, effective protection. Many businesses avoid paying for commercial security systems in order to save money. However, it is examples like this that emphasise the importance of CCTV security systems.

“Businesses have a duty of care to staff members. Without efficient security this duty of care can be compromised. Using the CCTV from the Chelmsley Wood supermarket, authorities can use the footage to appeal for information, which will significantly improve the prospects of bringing the criminal to justice.

“To avoid leaving your business and staff vulnerable to criminals, invest in commercial security systems for first-rate, comprehensive protection.”
