CCTV remains a hugely important resource in the prevention of business crime and the improvement of public safety

Leading provider of business security systems, AlertSystems, has hailed the positive impact that Business Improvement Districts are having on security in urban areas after hearing that Preston city centre is to have an overhaul of its CCTV system.

It follows confirmation that the proposal to upgrade CCTV in Preston to new digital technology is set to be approved. The scheme is to be funded by the Lancashire city’s Business Improvement District (BID) and will be implemented in three phases, the first of which will get underway this year at a cost of up to £47,000.

Both the BID and the city’s local authority are in unanimous agreement that CCTV remains a hugely important resource in the prevention of business crime and the improvement of public safety . To this extent the BID Committee has pledged their ongoing financial and operational support for all phases of the upgrade to ensure that Preston’s CCTV system remains fit for purpose.

As a leading independent provider of CCTV security systems, AlertSystems has backed the decision of the BID Committee to continue investing in Preston’s surveillance technology, arguing that everyone in the city will benefit.

A spokesman for the company said: “We fully support the view of Preston’s BID Committee and believe their ongoing investment in the city’s CCTV system is great news for both business owners and members of the public. The digital technology will allow for much sharper images and remote access to captured footage, so it will certainly improve its deterrent value in the fight against crime.

“This is just another example of the great work that BIDs in town and city centres across the UK are doing when it comes to improving security and reducing crime. Their commitment to safeguarding and upgrading proven measures like CCTV is commendable, and we hope many more urban areas will benefit,” he added.
