* New OLAP front-end for both LAWSON INSIGHT and Lawson Enterprise/400

Lawson Software has announced an agreement with strategic business intelligence vendor, Cognos, to offer Cognos PowerPlay® as a front-end interface to the LAWSON INSIGHT On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and Lawson Enterprise/400 Information Access solutions. Through this partnership, Lawson will integrate Cognos PowerPlay on the client side of its data warehouse solutions for customers interested in PowerPlay’s data exploration, graphical analysis, integration, scalability, security and Web-deployability features.

Cognos and Lawson have business intelligence solutions with features that complement each other when used in tandem, said Paul Hill, vice president of strategic alliances and business development for Cognos. Our partnership with Lawson offers companies best-of-class information analysis and OLAP, plus a feature-rich client that uses state-of-the-art Web technology. Together we bring mission critical information to the executive desktop.

A year ago, Lawson integrated its OLAP solution into the financials, supply chain and procurement process suites of its LAWSON INSIGHT Business Management System. Since then, more than 50 companies have selected LAWSON INSIGHT OLAP to gain new ways to visually access, analyze and report critical business data using intelligent, pre-configured information filters.

OLAP functionality is characterized by dynamic, multi-dimensional analysis of consolidated enterprise data into data cubes. The cubes enable analysts, managers and executives to gain insight into business operations through fast, consistent, interactive access to a wide variety of information, transforming raw data into intelligent company-useful data. For example, an OLAP cube may consist of sales data that has been aggregated by region, by product type and by sales channel, but has the intelligence to eliminate inter-company sales that would otherwise skew external revenue reports.

Cognos is the leading strategic supplier of enterprise business intelligence tools, allowing users to easily extract critical information through data access, reporting, analysis and forecasting. Cognos products consistently deliver the highest productivity gains to the user, the most manageable solution to the administrator and the fastest return on investment (ROI) to the enterprise. Cognos also develops, markets and supports software tools for enterprise application development. Founded in 1969, Cognos is a publicly held company with offices around the world. U.S. operations for the company are headquartered in Burlington, Mass. For more information, visit Cognos' World Wide Web sit at
