Discount Secondhand Jewellery

A new Discount Secondhand Jewellery store is to open in the run up to Christmas in Marlands Shopping Centre in Southampton, a unique discount jewellery retail concept from H&T Pawnbrokers.

The group redeveloped 36 stores across the UK between June and September. "Our research shows that there is a distinct gap in the market for quality, good value jewellery, there’s nothing like this on the high street today." said H&T Pawnbrokers CEO John Nichols. "The stores we have opened offer a completely new way for jewellery customers to shop, providing quality, exceptional value and outstanding service."

The decision to develop the concept follows successful trials within existing H&T Pawnbrokers sites with a focus on the retailing of discount secondhand jewellery in the North East and Manchester. The new Discount Secondhand Jewellery stores are unique on the high street in offering vintage, beautifully reconditioned and unique jewellery that’s almost as good as new but at a fraction of the cost. John added, “Today’s shoppers are used to trading and buying previously-own goods on the internet, our stores offer something new in that the customer can see the products before they buy and can take them home today.”

According to John Nichols, the move underlines the group’s ambitious retail growth plans: "With this move into retailing as a core of the stores’ business we're planning for significant retail growth for the foreseeable future."

He said that the stores would be focused on selling "quality jewellery and watches at well below the branded high street retailer prices. We'll be offering people what they want at prices they can afford."

The strategy offers a direct challenge to the main high street retailers and their prevalence for more mass produced products. “The Discount Secondhand Jewellery store is more like shopping in a designer store where products are limited to one of each and once it’s sold there’s no more stock in the warehouse, making the shopping trip more of an adventure!” said John. “It gives the customer the opportunity to find something special and one of a kind. We will of course continue to offer our customers a pawnbroking service and the opportunity to sell their jewellery to us.”

H&T are a well-known face on the UK high street, providing quality and value to local communities for decades, established in London in 1897, the business had its roots in pawnbroking and jewellery retail and has subsequently expanded to over 185 stores across the country.

“It’s time that customers shopping on the high street had a real choice when it comes to quality jewellery at affordable prices. We are delighted to be able to offer high-street shoppers access to a wide range of individual jewellery pieces, both new and pre-loved, all especially chosen to meet a range of budgets and styles,” says John Nichols. “We're really looking forward to welcoming customers to the stores.”
