These questions will be explored at Innovisions 2014, where trailblazers from industry, education and government will discuss how organisations can use smart innovation to gain competitive advantage, boost employee morale and create sustainable economic growth in the regions.
Innovisions is the flagship annual conference of NEF: The Innovation Institute. This year’s international line up of speakers includes Gregor Dirks, Corporate Innovator at Airbus, who will be revealing how cross company collaboration is accelerating product development across the 60,000 strong workforce.
Prof Sanjay Sarma, MIT’s first ever director of digital learning, will be discussing the elite university’s rapid shift towards proactive student-led learning.
And Amanda Brooks, Director of Innovation at BIS, will be explaining how British companies can take better advantage of the €79 billion Horizon 2020 programme, the EU’s biggest ever fund for research and innovation.
The full day event will include debates chaired by BBC journalists Fiona Graham and Sarah Campbell, who will be fielding questions from a specially invited audience of leaders and influencers.
Visitors will also be able to talk to companies at the forefront of innovation about their exciting projects ranging from big data to flying cars:
Gilo Industries: flying cars and parajets
Gilo Industries, the Dorset-based group that is pushing the boundaries of aviation technology, will be showing off its extraordinary flying car, Skyrunner, along with the latest generation Parajet, an ultralight personal aviation system, worn as a backpack, which is becoming increasingly popular in the civilian and military sectors.
Tom Prideaux-Brune, MD of Parajet, and Charlie Nicoll, Head of Operations at Gilo Industries, will be available to answer questions about the group’s evolving product range.
Holition’s big data installation
Holition explores and expands the role that technological innovation can play in the fashion and retail sector including augmented reality, holography, projection mapping, software development and satellite tracking technology.
At Innovisions, Holition will be demonstrating a big data visualisation art installation, recently created for UK fashion tech start-up Lyst, which tracks the activities of more than 200 luxury brands in real time and portrays 30,000 data changes every second.
CEO Jonathan Chippindale and colleagues will be on hand to talk about the company’s unique vision and other exciting projects.
Omnidynamics: enabling easier 3D printing at home
Omnidynamics, a start-up based in Bristol Robotics Laboratory, will be unveiling the Strooder, a filament extruder developed specifically for domestic 3-D printers.
Due to be launched in early 2015, the Strooder creates cost effective material for 3-D printing using recyclable raw plastic pellets.
CEO David Graves and operations manager Stephen Lloyd will be explaining how this innovative product is being brought to market.
EDF – energizing education
EDF Energy Campus personnel will be explaining their innovative approach to teaching fundamental knowledge to new employees and how their training learning and development programme has been adapted into a range of formats to inspire the existing workforce at home, in the workplace or the classroom
