Surprising footage shows the moment when the thief approaches the shopkeeper and places him in a trance before raiding his pockets

Leading providers of commercial security, AlertSystems, have reported on an unusual burglary in North London. CCTV footage has been released of shopkeeper, Aftab Haider, being hypnotised and robbed by a criminal who entered his store.

Off licence owner, Mr. Aftab Haider, was left out of pocket when a ‘hypnotist thief’ entered his premises in Highgate, North London. Surprising footage shows the moment when the thief approaches the shopkeeper and places him in a trance before raiding his pockets. Mr. Haider had a large amount of cash in his pockets from the stores takings which was taken by the criminal.

The footage from the Hops and Pops wine merchants is the first ever time this unique form of crime has been captured on CCTV in the UK. On reviewing the footage, it can clearly be seen that the suspect gently taps Mr. Haider’s arm on the way in. Moments later the man taps Mr. Haider’s waist, which renders the 56-year-old shop owner motionless. The thief can then be seen rifling through all of the shop owner’s pockets and taking a significant amount of money.

Throughout the robbery the suspect can be seen continuously talking to Mr. Haider. Before exiting, the criminal taps the shop owner on the shoulder and makes a swift exit. It takes only a few moments for Mr. Haider to return to normal and realise he has been robbed. By this point, the thief had already gone. Scotland Yard have now released the footage in a bid to track down the suspect. He is described as being of Eastern European descent, 5ft 8in and between 30 to 35 years old.

As leading providers of CCTV systems, AlertSystems take a keen interest in business security news. Upon hearing the news a spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “The burglary that occurred at Hop and Pops wine merchants is certainly a unique one. However, this is a perfect example for business owners to show that a security breach could occur at any time and in any form.

“Fortunately for Mr. Haider, his investment in high-quality CCTV equipment meant he could provide substantial evidence to the authorities. Without CCTV evidence Mr. Haider may have found it difficult to validate his unusual story. However, the footage clearly shows that a crime occurred and both business owner and police can now take constructive steps towards bringing the thief to justice.”
