without a clear cut policy, drivers can be left to pay thousands of pounds

The reaction follows a report in CarBuyer detailing how one driver was left to pay out thousands of pounds as the warranty policies given out by both his car manufacturer and his car dealer both rejected his claim.

After his purchase of a 59-plate Audi S4 Avant estate, Buckinghamshire-based driver Justin Berkovi experienced a failure of his S-tronic gearbox, an extremely modern and complex design, and his in-car stereo system.

With two warranty policies taken out on the car, one via Audi and one from the dealership he purchased the vehicle from, he assumed he would be covered for the damages. The replacement gearbox was to be installed at a cost of an estimated £9000 and, as a result, Berkovi found himself facing the costs himself after the both warranty policies tried to claim exemption from the charges. In addition to this, the dealership’s warranty policy had a stipulation stating no repairs over £1000 would be covered.
