Top model Karlo takes a journey from the catwalk to the boardroom.
Why independent labels are the future of sustainable fashion.
Hear first-hand how the dirty secrets of the fashion industry got Karlo “Elite Model Look Singapore 2012” finalist, involved in sustainable fashion. When Karlo met MTV UK Voice of Change and Award Winning social entrepreneur Aaron Jones, the founder of Fikay fashion, a synergy was born. Working with a wide variety of brands Karlo witnessed how the objectification of models, intern exploitation and overall lack of industry accountability is creating damage that independent brands such as Fikay set out to solve. Karlo and Aaron are both outspoken about the industry's need to be more transparent while still remaining fun and sexy.
On the occasion of LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN on January 9th 2015, Karlo and Aaron are hosting a Press Preview & Pop-Up over a complimentary Italian breakfast at the LI VELI Winery and Bistro, 69 Long Acre, Covent Garden. The presentation of the new Fikay Mens’ accessories, and travel luggage will be the brands’ premiere in London. The get-together will also be a brilliant opportunity to visit the recently opened venture brought to London by the Masseria LI VELI winery and the Borgo Egnazia Hotel in Puglia, Italy where Fikay did their last photo shoot. Join a panel discussion covering innovation in sustainable fashion, the launch of the Fikay new collection and learn why independent labels are becoming the new mainstream.

NOTES TO THE EDITORS:
Aaron Jones founded Fikay fashion, a sustainable yet fashionable accessories company, in 2012 after travelling in Asia. While volunteering in Cambodia he witnessed the suffering caused by poverty and wanted to help. He has designed and created a range of handy items for everyday needs, using discarded cement bags; the range created includes rucksacks, laptop cases, pencil cases, yoga-mat bags, guitar cases, and more. Fikay employs local people who may not be able to find employment, and promotes ethical employability taking on board and training people who are disadvantaged including widows and those with disabilities. In 2013 Aaron won “The Young Entrepreneur of the Year” Award. In the last two and a half years Fikay has helped build a school in Cambodia and saved almost 10,000 cement bags from landfill.
"Fikay is all about getting children learning and parents earning" - Aaron Jones
After Karlo joined Fikay, the company was selected to participate in the UnLtd Faster Growth Program. Aaron and Karlo work with companies such as Bain & Co, E&Y and DLA Piper on business development projects, and also received a significant grant funding from the Millenium Awards Trust. Karlo connected Fikay to sustainable fashion pioneers; Rosalind Milani Gallieni, founder and director of RMG PR & Events, and Marina Capello, Events Associate of RMG PR; both have both joined the Fikay advisory board to take the venture further. Karlo used his modelling network and insider knowledge to leverage industry support for a greater purpose. They all are now building a company which educates and has a vision to change how design-lead fashion is made, placing Fikay in minds of consumers next to brands such as TOMS, Komodo and Freitag.
