Nearby businesses have expressed concerns to the local council about the lack of CCTV presence in the area.

Leading providers of commercial security, AlertSystems, have reported on the recent damage inflicted on the William Hill bookmakers in Pall Mall, Chorley. There have been calls for an investment in security measures.

Around £2,000 worth of damage to the William Hill bookmakers was caused on the night of New Year’s Eve and the early hours of New Year’s Day. The shop unfortunately had its doors and windows smashed by vandals. This is not the first incident of its kind for the bookmakers, as they have struggled with vandalism issues in the past. However, the police are not connecting the two incidents.

Nearby businesses have expressed concerns to the local council about the lack of CCTV presence in the area. Chorley Council is currently reviewing CCTV in the area and is looking to implement high quality cameras to improve coverage. They are also working with partners to decide the most appropriate places for the cameras to be located.

However, Councillor Paul Walmsley made the following statement: “We do expect individual businesses to have their own security measures. Our CCTV system is there in addition to, not instead of, their own security measures.” As experts in CCTV, AlertSystems take a keen interest in relevant industry news. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “Although public CCTV can be used to protect businesses against crime, business owners should put more reliance on their own CCTV security.

“Like the William Hill incident in Chorley indicates, relying purely on council-funded CCTV could leave your business in a compromising position. These CCTV cameras are focused on public protection, which means your business will not be the main focus of these security systems. By investing in commercial security, business owners can be in complete control of their security and can ensure that their premises are being fully monitored.”
