he browsed the selection before putting two jackets on top of his own, zipping them up and walking out of the store

Police are hoping that CCTV footage will aid in the capture of a man they want to speak to regarding the theft of expensive jackets. A spokesperson for AlertSystems responds to the story.

Police in Knutsford have released CCTV footage of a man they suspect has stolen more than £1000 worth of jackets from a store. On two occasions the man entered Barbour Retail Store on Princess Street and walked out with expensive items. On the first occasion he browsed the selection before putting two jackets on top of his own, zipping them up and walking out of the store.

He then returned to the store a few weeks later, where he again browsed what was on offer before stuffing three jackets into a shoulder bag and under his coat. Each jacket cost around £250 and the police have now published CCTV footage of both incidents.

“He looked like one of our customers; we had no reason to suspect him,” claimed shop manager Neil Bottomly. “The first time we realised that something was stolen was when the shop assistant found the empty hangers. He managed to get past the security alarm without it going off the first time but the second time the alarm did go off. The two members of staff that were on at the time did not know what he looked like but as soon as I saw the footage I knew it was the same guy – the footage is so clear.”

AlertSystems, a leading provider of commercial surveillance systems, takes a strong interest in stories such as this. A spokesperson said: “This man obviously believed that he could keep getting away with stealing these jackets, but luckily the alarm system went off the second time. Now shop workers have been able to put the two sets of footage together and confirm that the items were taken by the same person.

“Hopefully the public will see this footage and somebody will be able to come forward with some information. CCTV is a great benefit to shops as it monitors the area and allows you to look back and check on any suspicious behaviour. Shop owners around the country should definitely think about having a surveillance system installed if they haven’t already.”
