The footage shows the man entering Simply Food and Drink in Wallsend before brandishing a knife and using threatening behaviour

CCTV footage of an armed robbery has been released by police in an attempt to track down the criminals. An AlertSystems spokesperson responds to the report.

Police have released CCTV footage of a hooded armed robber entering a North Tyneside shop and stealing cash and cigarettes from the till. The footage shows the man entering Simply Food and Drink in Wallsend before brandishing a knife and using threatening behaviour towards a member of staff.

The man then leaves the shop and it’s believed another person was waiting outside for the offender, where they may have both left in an older style Volkswagen Golf. Police are now calling for the public’s help to aid the investigation. “While the woman in the shop wasn’t injured she was left extremely distressed by what happened,” claimed DC Steve Hakin.

“We’ve been carrying out extensive inquiries to trace the two men involved and I’d urge anyone with information about who they are to get in touch with us, anonymously if necessary. Someone out there will have information which will help this inquiry and I ask them to contact police, no matter how insignificant they feel it may be it could be vital in helping find these men.”

AlertSystems, a leading provider of CCTV installations for businesses around the UK, takes a strong interest in reports such as this. A spokesperson provided this statement: “Armed robbery is truly terrifying and luckily the staff member was not harmed during this incident. Hopefully a member of the public will be able to view the CCTV footage and give the police some clue as to who the suspect might be and where they might be found.
