They emptied a total of four cash tills and took a sum of around £13,000 in cash

Leading providers of CCTV security, AlertSystems, have reported on the recent robbery at an Asda store in Small Heath, Birmingham.

Three men wearing balaclavas have recently been caught on CCTV raiding self-service tills at the supermarket. The men, who were wearing balaclavas and carrying machetes, gained entry into the store in the early hours of the morning. They emptied a total of four cash tills and took a sum of around £13,000 in cash. The men escaped from the scene in a dark car, which turned right out of the Asda car park and towards a local pub.

The police have since used the CCTV footage as part of a public appeal for the criminals. In the footage, the men can be seen wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, as well as high-vis vests. Whilst carrying their weapons, the men can be seen raiding a number of the self-service machines and filling a bag with cash. Police have also released a single CCTV image of a man who is suspected of being one of the gang members. The picture shows the male without his balaclava as it was taken before the raid.

As experts in CCTV security, AlertSystems takes a keen interest in business news. A spokesperson from the company made the following statement: “It is always unfortunate when businesses experience organised robberies such as this. These men were clearly prepared and had all the necessary equipment to carry out the theft. However, the presence of high-quality CCTV means that the police now have crucial evidence needed to track down the individuals.

“Any recorded footage of a crime is a huge benefit for a criminal investigation. However, CCTV can be used to also monitor the behaviour of customers over an extensive timeline. This gives the police the opportunity to highlight any suspicious behaviour and take note of any individuals of interest. In the case of the Asda robbery in Small Heath, CCTV footage has been used to back track any unusual behaviour in the store, which has led to the police finding a clear and unmasked image of a suspect. Hopefully, a public appeal using the CCTV footage will lead to the capture of the criminals.”
