Wolverhampton is going through a period of regeneration, which means major retailers should be welcomed to the city centre

Leading providers of store planning software, Retail Smart, have recently reported about the submitted planning application from Smyths Toys to open a new store at Bilston Retail Market.

Firstplan, agents of Smyths Toys, have submitted their planning application to open a new store in Wolverhampton’s Bilston Retail Market at the former premises of Allied Carpets. The leading provider of children’s toys and entertainment products hopes to open a store that creates up to 30 full time jobs, with the figure potentially rising to up to 60 with seasoned positions being allocated at the Christmas period.

According to retail experts, the city centre of Wolverhampton is in desperate need of more major retailers and is currently missing around 25 of the top 100 national shopping brands. The potential news of a major retailer coming to Wolverhampton will be of welcome delight to city regeneration chiefs. The planning report from Firstplan stated: “The application proposals will facilitate the occupation of the unit by Smyths Toys.

“Smyths Toys are expanding their operations across the UK and have a long standing requirement for a store in Wolverhampton. Reflecting the demand from consumers, further expansion is planned. The application site meets the operational requirements of the business and will enable Smyths Toys to be represented in Wolverhampton. The proposed extension to the range of goods that can be sold from the application site will not result in a significant adverse impact on vitality and viability of Wolverhampton City Centre of Bilston Town Centre.”
