A patron of the Bohemia bar in Brighton has made off with a custom-made antique table worth £800.

An unidentified man has stolen an £800 table from a popular cocktail bar in Brighton. The bar, Bohemia, has released images of the man in a public appeal to help find him and the missing table. A spokesperson for AlertSystems provides a comment.

A patron of the Bohemia bar in Brighton has made off with a custom-made antique table worth £800. The man was caught on CCTV edging the table towards the front door, sitting on it whenever staff members passed by. When he was close enough to the door, he picked up the table and made his exit. The incident occurred at approximately 1am on April 24th. Bohemia has asked that anyone who recognises the man approach either them or the police.

The table was commissioned to a local artist, Paul Harrison. The piece features an antique drum which was painted before legs were added to turn it into a table. “I think everybody has just been a bit shocked by it,” Christian Glover, general manager of the bar, commented. “You do not expect someone to walk off with a big drum. It was just completely out of the blue.” The bar’s owner, Verity Craig, has also spoken about the incident, stating that “Eventually he manages to get it to the front door and then quickly lifts it, and runs off up The Lanes. Amazing really since it is a very large and heavy table. The images that we have taken from our CCTV show the man in question very clearly so I am hoping someone may recognise him and even recall seeing where our drum table is.”

AlertSystems, a leading provider of CCTV equipment in the UK, takes a keen interest in industry news such as this. A spokesperson for the company commented on the theft, saying “It is incredible that something as heavy and unique as a commissioned piece of furniture can be taken with such ease from a busy bar on a Friday night. However, despite his best efforts to make a clean getaway, his face was clearly captured on high quality CCTV cameras. Thankfully, because of this, the bar stands a good chance of recovering their property.”
