An India-based charity aimed at reducing the number of stray dogs on the streets has introduced a new initiative to help fund its animal birth control program.
Called Dog Buddy, it allows pet owners across the world to get a pal for their own pet - no matter whether it’s a Boa Constrictor or a Budgerigar!
For $25, the Street Dog Watch Association will send the sponsor a pic of their pet’s buddy dog, a postcard of him or her from Kerala where the charity is based, a local keyring made from coconut and regular updates from the dog via email!
To get a Dog Buddy, pet owners simply need to make a donation on the Street Dog Watch Association’s Indiegogo page (https://life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/1125389/x/9842754), ensuring they leave their email and the hashtag #dogbuddy. The charity will then then get straight back in touch.
Street Dog Watch Association needs funding to enable it to develop its sterilisation clinic, isolation unit and to be able to conduct outreach programs in other areas along with continuing its rescue service.
Currently the charity responds to an average of eight rescue calls per day with its small team of three staff plus occasional helpers.
About Street Dog Watch Association:
Street Dog Watch was set up following a two week holiday to India as there was no one effectively conducting a focused and continuous Animal Birth Control program and trying to encourage better relationships with the human and animal communities.
After many heart-breaking experiences the organisation began with its own funding but as it has grown it needs further financial support!
Its aim is to help the community to manage the stray dog population humanely by implementing the Animal Birth Control program. It does this by:
Sterilising - in 2014 it sterilised over 300 dogs
Adopting - re-homing pups thrown in the street to die
Vaccinating - against rabies reducing risk to humans
Educating - local people about animal welfare
Rescuing - dogs involved in road accidents and abuse cases
