It’s wonderful to see the younger generation buying into the timeless appeal of the iconic London Routemaster.
The reaction comes following a report in the Sunderland Echo detailing the various ways of transport that students will be using to travel to their end of year prom as the culmination of the school year approaches.
While more traditional modes of transport such as the taxicab or a simple lift to the venue from someone’s parents have undoubtedly been replaced by more glamourous alternatives such as the limousine, it appears that today’s youth are exploring the realms of possibility even further when it comes to their choice of prom transport this year.
Classic motor vehicles such as the Rolls-Royce and the VW Campervan are becoming increasingly popular choices, but they do not always accommodate for the large friendship groups that typify secondary school leavers. For groups of over fifteen people, an iconic London Routemaster double decker appears to be the medium of choice, with room for 72 people to sit comfortably.
The article states that the buses are “a perfect, stylish and fun way to fit you and all of your friends into one vehicle”, and hire company RedRoutemaster have released a statement following the article in support of this view:
“It’s wonderful to see the younger generation buying into the timeless appeal of the iconic London Routemaster. For school proms, it seems that the limousine is becoming somewhat outdated by more iconic, classy mediums of transport and the Routemaster is absolutely perfect for large groups who want to arrive in style.”
