PLYMOUTH, ENGLAND 25th August 2015 – Plessey today confirmed that there will be nearly thirty cyclists for its annual, corporate hospitality and charity ride version of the Tour of Devon. The ride takes place in two weeks’ time on Thursday 3rd September 2015. As part of the event, Plessey will be raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK – a charity fighting to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. This year, Plessey has targeted to raise over £10,000 in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Prostate cancer currently affects 250,000 men in the UK, and kills one man every hour. While it is already the most common cancer in men, it is predicted to become the most common of all cancers in the UK by 2030. The funds raised will help to provide support and information to men and their families, fund research into the causes and treatments of the disease, and campaign to give men’s health the prominence it needs to influence others.

Sabine Poppelmann, Communications and Customer Care Manager for Plessey said, “It is a shame that the Tour of Britain 2015 is missing Devon this year, but we hope to still bring a bit of that cycling madness to the area. We have had phenomenal support this year from local and national businesses for our second time running this event. It is going to be a great day out for all involved and we are very much looking forward to showing off the Devon country side. We are a bit behind in sponsors for Prostate Cancer UK, but I am sure that in the final two weeks before the event donations will pick up through our fundraising page on”

The 105 mile ride will be based on the 2014 stage five of Tour of Britain where the cyclists will follow a modified version of the route with scheduled stops along the way. The team will start and complete nearby the Plessey facilities in Plymouth on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in South Devon, and stop for breaks and refreshments along the route in Okehampton, Exeter, Bovey Tracy and Widecombe-in-the-Moor.

The cycling specialists Evans Cycles will be providing a service station to perform safety checks for all the company employees and corporate clients participating in the event. Hewitt Hire from Exeter will be sponsoring the support vehicles to ensure safety and support for the riders along the route.
