The what3words partnership aims to make it easier for people to connect to places – dispelling the need to remember lengthy postal addresses
• Navmii partners with what3words to integrate its 3m x 3m square address system into its navigation app
• Navigate to precise 3m x 3m locations anywhere on earth
Navmii, the free navigation and traffic app, announces the complete integration of what3words, the global grid of 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares – each assigned a unique three word address. These addresses have been added to the Navmii map, allowing users to discover and navigate to areas without a postcode or where a postcode is inaccurate, as well as direct friends and family to specific 3m x 3m meeting points.
What3words has defined every single 3m x 3m square on the planet by a unique three word address which can be shared quickly, easily and with no ambiguity. To use a what3words address on Navmii, simply enter the three word address into Navmii’s search bar, or to discover an address location on the map, simply zoom in and tap on the desired location.
Even highly populated cities suffer from clarity issues in terms of address. For example, in London there are eight different Lonsdale Roads which can lead to confusion and mistakes navigating to incorrect destinations.
The what3words partnership aims to make it easier for people to connect to places – dispelling the need to remember lengthy postal addresses – let alone latitude and longitude coordinates. Navmii will now be able to navigate its users to exactly the right entrance at a venue or help them track down friends at a festival by sharing just three simple, unique words.
Navmii’s free mobile navigation app combines voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, local search and safe driver ratings to create a community of smart, engaged and active drivers. The app is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry, already has more than 26 million downloads and is available across 90 countries. Navmii is powered by its own mapping data and real-time Navmii community updates, combined with OpenStreetMaps to create free and accurate driving advice. Navmii’s maps, including the what3words integration, are downloaded onto a mobile device – meaning the app will work offline, without a data connection, all over the world.
Peter Atalla, CEO of Navmii says: “Postcodes and addresses only go so far. Consider Wembley Stadium and its numerous entrances – the what3words integration means that if a Navmii user wants to meet friends at the south west side of the stadium, all they have to do is enter ‘mostly.scared.swing’ into the search bar and Navmii will take care of the rest. We are dedicated to making navigation and connecting people to places much simpler.”

Navmii has more than 26 million users and uses its own proprietary mapping data combined with the Open Street Map initiative to deliver reliable open sourced navigation to users, who can also contribute information to help the app improve.
