17th November 2015, London - WAE is delighted to announce that its ‘WAE Metropolitan Police iPad Mobility Project’ has been named winner of a bronze award at the UX Awards in New York last night.

The WAE team is extremely proud of this achievement, as the entry was up against some stiff competition. Other finalists in this year’s UX Awards included Qatar, Google and SAP, to name a few. Winners in previous years have included Deutsch, SAP, Interaxon, Method, Cantina, UberConference, UX Vision, and American Express, amongst many other global organisations.

Dedicated to showcasing the best in UX practitioners, outcomes, processes and impact, the UX Awards highlight the essential value of UX on a global scale. The awards promote how UX has inspired and educated the broader technology community, plus the need to celebrate and reward success in the discipline.

The awards ceremony took place at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York, where Rachel Armstrong, Director at WAE, attended the glamorous gala evening and proudly collected the crystal trophy on behalf of the team. Commenting on the award, Rachel said, “We are truly delighted to have been honoured with this award. The aim behind the work we have done with The Metropolitan Police was to streamline the day-to-day operations of its officers, reducing paperwork and streamlining processes so that the police are spending less time in the office and more time on the streets. Ultimately, this is about increasing public safety and it feels very rewarding to know that this goal has been recognised with such a prestigious award.”

Rachel met the judging panel earlier in the day to give a “behind the scenes” talk on the project, and her passion and enthusiasm, plus the overall innovativeness of this project, secured a bronze award for WAE. Showcasing a line up of industry specialists, this year’s judges included the Head of Experience Design, AirBNB, Katie Dill, the Founder of Tectonic and former Design Director at Microsoft, Bill Flora, and the VP of Digital at McKinsey and Company, Jennifer Kilian.

WAE worked with the Metropolitan Police Mobility Team to develop a pilot system that enhances three key areas of The Metropolitan Police’s Crime Reporting Information System (CRIS), with a clear vision of improving the flow of information and helping front line officers make urgent decisions on location. As a result, officers are now able to quickly and more efficiently report crimes and missing persons, collect evidence and record witness statements by using an iPad Mini.

Having been named a finalist for the Met Police project in three other awards and shortlisted for one other since September, including the Meffys, the Mobile Excellence Awards and the UK Digital Experience Awards, WAE is delighted with the global reception that this work is getting.
