Centenary Woodland Garden

gardens can provide great therapeutic benefits to a whole neighbourhood and bring a community together

A new 4 acre community garden for veterans in Wales and a luxury garden on a private estate in Surrey have secured awards from different quarters for Fisher Tomlin & Bowyer this autumn.

Thanks to the efforts of staff and volunteers at Blind Veterans UK the ‘Centenary Woodland Garden’ designed by the company and opened in June this year at their Llandudno Centre has been awarded a Royal Horticultural Society standard of 'Outstanding' in the 'It's Your Neighbourhood' Wales in Bloom competition. Designed across 4 acres of woodland and including workshops, sculpture, walks, beehives and over 4,000 plants and 10,000 bulbs the garden has quickly become a great resource for members and the local community.

Unusually awarded the highest level in its first year, the garden was praised for the high quality of the planting and other features including the innovative guide handrails. Andrew Fisher Tomlin said “working with Blind Veterans UK has been a brilliant journey that proves that gardens can provide great therapeutic benefits to a whole neighbourhood and bring a community together.”

The second award for a new home by Q Developments in Surrey, for which Fisher Tomlin & Bowyer provided the garden design, has won the prestigious ‘Best Luxury House’ Award at the What House? Awards 2015. The judges praised "the cumulative effect of the subtle, luxurious detailing that makes this a timeless property of the finest finish." Dan Bowyer who led the garden design said “We're delighted to be associated with a project and a client of this caliber and to secure our second What House Award”.

To round off the trio of awards Fisher Tomlin & Bowyer has been awarded the Build Architecture Awards coveted ‘Garden Designers of the Year in London 2015’. The award is made annually to practices that have shown expertise in the profession and in particular for real gardens and publically accessed landscapes across a range of clients and locations.
