Hailed as "significant breakthrough," PLATINUM ProVision
builds on strength of PLATINUM's market-proven tools to
deliver cost effective, flexible solution

PLATINUM technology, inc. (NSDQ:PLAT) today announced the
availability of PLATINUM ProVision, a first-of-its-kind
suite of integrated systems and database management tools.
ProVision enables companies to reduce the costs and risks
associated with managing the IT infrastructure while
increasing productivity and service levels.

ProVision initially includes nine tools that address key IT
management disciplines: job management, performance
management, software distribution, problem resolution,
security, database utilities, and database schema
management. PLATINUM will include additional systems and
database management tools as part of ProVision in the
future.

ProVision is a feature-rich solution that includes unique
tool-to-tool integration. The suite is modular so customers
can implement the tools they need, when they need them, in
order to get immediate benefit from the solution. ProVision
users can manage IT problems end to end, with a full or
incremental suite.

This solution provides one common interface for monitoring
system health and taking corrective actions. In addition,
ProVision allows IT professionals to view and manage the
enterprise from their own unique perspective and easily
collaborate to solve critical problems.

"We view this suite of products as a significant
breakthrough for a number of reasons," said Frank Sparacino,
investment analyst for Barrington Research Associates, Inc.
"We believe that the ProVision suite changes the competitive
playing field and we're excited about PLATINUM's products,
technology and future prospects across all business units."

"ProVision increased our efficiency and helped us guarantee
availability of our IT resources while controlling our
staffing expenses," said Colin Henderson, technology
development manager at QSP Ltd. "We see near- and long-term
benefits to using PLATINUM ProVision for enterprise
management. We know that manual monitoring today would take
at least 200 percent of the effort and time that's now
needed with ProVision in place."

Headquartered in the UK, QSP focuses on meeting the
financial system needs of large enterprises worldwide.
"ProVision enables us to increase IT service levels with a
much smaller staff than would normally be required to
monitor our database and servers," said Henderson.

"PLATINUM ProVision is the result of listening to many users
who ask for a flexible and complete infrastructure solution
that reduces risk and increases productivity," said Andrew
J. Filipowski, president and CEO of PLATINUM technology,
inc. "PLATINUM is the first vendor to recognize the
importance of combining systems and database management--two
critical areas that are, by their very nature, dependent on
one another. With ProVision, our customers can implement a
powerful IT solution without compromising the ability to
choose just the pieces they need, the flexibility of working
with or without a framework, and the need to rapidly deploy
tools into production."

Integration Approach ProVision tools feature POEMS (PLATINUM
Open Enterprise Management Services) technology, which
integrates tools at three levels: data, functional, and user
interface. This unique solution, built upon a component
design, allows users to leverage functionality across
multiple tools, share common data, integrate messaging and
events management, share a common GUI, and employ common
installation and configuration management. POEMS is the
technology used by PLATINUM to build products, faster, so it
is built into each tool and provided at no additional cost.

Partner Support PLATINUM intends to leverage POEMS
technology to provide integration with third party
frameworks such as HP OpenView and Tivoli TME. PLATINUM will
connect with these open frameworks through POEMS, one common
point of integration. PLATINUM's unique component-based
integration approach results in tightly integrated tools
that have end-to-end problem solving functionality, as well
as providing a centralised link to the framework to simplify
installation and future upgrades.

"PLATINUM ProVision complements HP's world-class solutions
and capabilities in delivering the best solutions for open
systems customers. We believe ProVision offers customers an
excellent approach to their IT management needs," said Dick
Watts, vice president of Worldwide Sales and Distribution at
Hewlett-Packard Company. "With ProVision, PLATINUM delivers
both best-in-class individual products as well as expertly
executed integration between the tools in the suite. We've
also provided customers investment protection since HP
OpenView and PLATINUM ProVision are deeply integrated.
Together, HP and PLATINUM are leading the industry in
helping customers achieve their business objectives, quickly
and cost-effectively!"

Pricing and Availability PLATINUM ProVision is available now
on a limited basis with plans for general availability by
year-end. Tools in the ProVision suite are offered
individually or as a complete suite, at current point
product prices. This allows customers to buy just the tools
they need, when they need them.

PLATINUM ProVision is available for Microsoft Windows NT,
HP-UX, IBM AIX and Sun Solaris, with versions for other
popular UNIX platforms and MVS to follow. Although a
framework is not required, ProVision is compatible with both
the Tivoli TME 10 and HP Open View management frameworks.
