Set in the present day in London and Shanghai in 1984. It is a story of entrapment, betrayal and espionage. The plot moves back and forth in time and unfolds through two perspectives – Diplomat Jess Turner the present day in London, and diplomat Marianne Henderson in Shanghai in 1984.
Jean Harrod worked in the British Embassy in Peking from 1980-83. In her role as diplomat, Jean was one of two officers sent to Shanghai to open a new British Consulate-General in 1984-85, her knowledge of Shanghai adds facts to her fiction

About the book
Diplomat Jess Turner is in London, working on the China desk in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It’s her job to ensure the State visit of the Chinese President runs smoothly, but tensions are running high.
As work progresses, Jess uncovers a shocking secret. A British diplomat, Marianne Henderson, went missing in Shanghai in 1984 and has never been seen again. Not only that, all evidence she ever existed vanished with her. When Jess starts asking questions, she is warned off. But she is caught up in a chain of events she has no power to control. As she digs into the past to find out what happened to Marianne, Jess finds herself in grave danger.

About the author
Jean Harrod is a former British diplomat who has spent much of her life working overseas in Embassies and High Commissions in Australia, Brussels, the Caribbean, China, East Berlin, Indonesia, Mauritius and
Switzerland.
Jean now lives in North Yorkshire. Along with her diplomatic crime novels, Jean is an active contributor to regional theatre; she has written and staged several plays. www.jeanharrod.com
