E-BUSINESS EXPO 2000 SEES A SHIFT IN BALANCE FROM EVALUATORS TO IMPROVERS Wednesday 15 November 2000 PDF Print e-business Expo 2000 at Olympia, London (7-9 November '00) has again proved to be a tremendous success in spite of the floods and train disruptions throughout the UK with over 7,700 visitors (on-site figure). The show had over 160 companies exhibiting with over 70 new products unveiled for the 1st time and over 100 free seminars in 5 impressive theatres which saw a constant flow of keen delegates. Over a quarter of visitors to e-business Expo 2000 were director level or above and the remainder were managers, e-business specialists or consultants who were mainly looking to improve their existing e-business solutions, with a drop in the percentage of those evaluating or adopting e-business solutions, compared with last year's attendees. Throughout the three day event visitors were able to enjoy an exciting, vibrant exhibition where all the key players in the e-business market showcased their latest solutions and products including BT Ignite Application Services, Logica, Hitachi Europe, Deloitte and Touche, the DTI, Compaq Computers, SAS, RSA and Thus. The FREE seminar programme, attracted many of the most prominent and renowned speakers in the e- business industry including Patricia Hewitt - Minister for Small Business & E-Commerce who gave a presentation on current e-business issues and developments, and other well known e-business spokes-people such as; Nigel Hickson from the CBI, Jim Norton from the IoD, Margaret Manwering from the Data Protection Office to name but a few. In order to meet the needs of a more educated and mature market Reed Exhibitions, organisers of the event prepared an Industry Focus Stream which concentrated on eight industry sectors. These included retail, banking/finance, media/publishing, travel, public sector, IT/telecoms, manufacturing and healthcare, all of which proved to be incredibly popular. Some of the most well-attended seminars included John Griffith, MD of Intershop and Mark Cooper from Wesleyan Assurance talking about Gomedix, the European Online Marketplace for medical supplies; Pam Craig from Sabre discussing how e-business is shaking up the Travel Industry and Michele Mooney from Ignite Application Services on Be Secure! Managed Trust Services for Financial Institutions. The exhibitors were delighted with the calibre of high level decision- makers and comments include: Alex Lochheard from SAA said "In spite of the floods Reed Exhibitions through the excellent PR and marketing still managed to create a fantastic event with over 150+ in our seminar from major blue chips and government departments. From the enquiries we have seen the market has moved on and matured and the period of confusion is over." David Griffith MD of Intershop said "The market is booming - seeing hot leads despite the weather - Critical mass. The show is a perfect reflection and confirmation that it is booming - visibility of our branding has been excellent at this show." Bill Pugsley of Perwill - "We have been exhibiting at this show since 1995 when it was the Electronic Commerce Show. The last two years have been the best, and the business we have taken from these shows, including this one, has encouraged us to book for the year ahead. We do many exhibitions around the world but this is the one we always come back to" Lisa Walden of Actinic said "The show has been fantastic! We are meeting hundreds of new companies - it shows there is still real potential in the market. I believe the mobile part of the show has helped bring in the new faces." James Gurd of Biomni said "The through-traffic has been good from a number of excellent prospects from senior level decision-makers. The seminars were well attended and reached the right audience. The ability to exhibit, use the seminar programme and the excellent PR prior to the show has allowed us to achieve a successful and integrated marketing campaign." The decision to run Mobile Business Solutions alongside e-business Expo 2000 proved to very popular amongst both exhibitors and visitors. The organisers are therefore running m-business Expo 2000 alongside e- commerce Expo 2000 in the Spring at the NEC, Birmingham from 3-5 April 2001. e-business Expo 2000 will be held next year from 27-29 November 2001 at Olympia.
