MYLEX’S eXtremeRAID 2000 RAID CONTROLLER CONTRIBUTES TO TPC-H DECISION SUPPORT DATABASE PEFORMANCE FIRST Wednesday 15 November 2000 PDF Print Contacts: Suresh Panikar Mylex Corporation +1 510 608 2406 firstname.lastname@example.org Paul Shlackman or Alex Murphy Strategic Alliance International +44 (0)1494 434 434 email@example.com Ultra 160 RAID Controller Enhances Performance by Reducing I/O Bottlenecks, Scaling to Support Large Data Centres Mylex, an IBM company and leading supplier of RAID controllers, today announced that its eXtremeRAID 2000 RAID storage controller was selected by Hewlett-Packard for its NetServer LXr 8500 system, which recently became the first Intel®- and Microsoft®-based system to report TPC-H decision support benchmark performance at the 300 gigabyte database level while achieving the best overall price/performance. The HP NetServer LXr 8500 system achieved 1402.5 Composite Queries per Hour (QphH) at 300GB with TPC-H price performance of $207 per QphH at 300GB. TPC-H is the rigorous industry standard benchmark performed under strict specifications of the Transaction Processing Performance Council to provide an indication of ad hoc Decision Support System (DSS) server performance and price performance. Under test conditions, the database server system configuration included six Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Ultra 160 RAID controllers, providing the connectivity for 2.2 terabytes (TB) of mass storage and the throughput capacity to support over 2,150 complex database queries per hour. "We are excited for HP and Mylex on their TPC-H achievement using SQL Server 2000," said Steve Murchie, group product manager for Microsoft SQL Server. "HP’s new performance records are evidence that Windows 2000 and SQL Server 2000 can scale up to handle very large data warehouse loads with excellent performance." "The eXtremeRAID 2000 is one of the industry’s first controllers to support the latest Ultra 160 standard and we’re honoured that HP selected us for its TPC-H testing," said Eric Herzog, vice president of marketing for Mylex. "We congratulate the HP Network Server Division on its scaling capability and are pleased that the eXtremeRAID 2000 contributed to this achievement."
