-The Source hosts event to raise money for Orbis, the world’s only flying eye hospital-

The Source, the Hi-tech media information resource for journalists and PR professionals, is hosting "In Full View", a charity event designed to raise money for Orbis, the eyesight charity. The event will be held on 30th November at West One Four, (North End Road, West Kensington), and doors will open at 7pm.

-There are 45 million blind and a further 135 million people with low vision, the majority of whom live in the developing world. Tragically, it is estimated that 80% of these people are needlessly blind due to the lack of relevant medical care.-

During the event, 10 men and 10 women who have volunteered to be "Slaves for a day" - including the Source’s founder and Managing Director, Daryl Willcox, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Other highlights include live music and a raffle, plus a DJ to help you enjoy the evening to the full.

Tickets cost £7 on the door and only £5 if pre-booked - however there are a limited number of places available at this one-off event, so if you are interested in coming, please make sure you e-mail Helen Holloway, the event organiser, at by Wed. 22nd November.

About Orbis

Orbis is an international charity dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness by training local doctors, nurses and other health-care workers in the developing world in vital sight-saving techniques. The Orbis team is joined by hundreds of volunteer eye surgeons and medical professionals who donate their time to share their skills.

Programmes are held on-board the Orbis plane, the world’s only flying eye hospital, and in local hospitals and clinics in the developing world. Since Orbis first took flight in 1982, it has held more than 400 programmes in 80 countries and conducted training and demonstrations to over 50,000 healthcare professionals.

About The Source:

The Source is effectively two web services closely linked - for journalists and for PR professionals. This unique feature has led to its huge popularity with both the press and the PR community.

This system allows PR professionals to select magazines by country and category, search by key word and create custom features tables based on search criteria. The service covers hi-tech and business press in the UK and most of continental Europe. Response Source

This service allows journalists to request information from the PR community by filling-in a simple but structured form on PRs who subscribe to FeaturesExec receive the enquiries by email, in an easy-to-view standard format allowing quick identification of the value of the enquiry. PRs can also view a digest of outstanding enquiries at The system is currently processing over 200 enquiries a month and over 400 journalists use it on a regular basis.

Freelance Journalist Directory

This directory holds over 370 freelance journalists’ details, including preferred contact information, specialist areas covered, types of editorial work undertaken and a biography – all this information is provided by the journalist themselves and is regularly updated. The system even includes details on whether or not each journalist provides media training or PR writing services.

A special interface on, open to commissioning editors only, allows editors to search for an appropriate freelance and send a message to them, without that journalist’s contact details being revealed.

This is a generic email and web press release wire service which journalists voluntarily subscribe to receive, choosing to either get full releases, headlines and first paragraphs plus a link to the full release or a daily digest.
