Tamworth, Staffordshire - 20th November 2000 - PC management specialists, Vector Networks announce a major new version of flagship product NetSupport PC-Duo,
PC remote control software. In version 6 of PC-Duo, Vector Networks has updated PC-Duo to run with the current Beta release of Whistler, Microsoft’s next iteration of the Windows operating system.
In the new version, Vector has included new functionality based on user feedback from the latest round of major international corporate rollouts of PC-Duo, some of which are in the 10,000+ PC bracket. The new features include CAPI support for ISDN clients,
Wake-on-LAN support, improved ActiveX Control security, as well as enhancements to support the release of Windows 2000 SP1.
Further security features have also been added, including a hot key disconnect capability, which allows an end user to terminate a remote session for whatever reason. This feature is of special importance in highly sensitive environments where a user may wish to prevent support staff accessing a PC, even though they would normally have access rights set.
Phil Robinson, Vector's Technical Marketing Manager, remarked "With the precedent set by being first in the market with support for Windows 2000, it was important for Vector to provide early adopters and testers of Whistler with a version of PC-Duo that they could implement on that platform". But being at the sharp end has its problems too; as Phil noted - "The only thing we can say for sure is that the Whistler code will change again
many times before finally being released, so we'll be keeping a close eye on it. In the meantime, we have taken the opportunity to add some key features such as support for Wake-on-LAN enabled PCs. You can now wake a PC up and then take control of it, subject to your privilege of course!"
