Max Glaskin scoops the AGI Journalist of the Year Award 2000 at the Annual AGI Dinner and Award Ceremony in London, Glaziers Hall on 16 November 2000.

The Association for Geographic Information (AGI) presented the award to journalist Max Glaskin for his article 'On location' which appeared in Engineering (November 1999) and the Sunday Times (Feb 2000).

Hailed at the Awards Ceremony for its clarity and ability to communicate a complex issue, 'On location' deals with the space age application Galileo - the European equivalent to America's Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Russian owned GLOSNASS. The article addresses these complex systems and presents Europe's Galileo in a well-structured manner.

Sponsored by CMP Europe Limited, the Journalist of the Year Award 2000 forms part of the AGI's annual awards scheme recognising GI excellence in a number of areas. Every year the AGI presents this award to the journalist in the UK who makes the most significant contribution to increasing awareness of the value of Geographic Information among either the general public or decision makers.

The runner up for the Journalist of the Year Award is Marcus Pollet. His article, 'The reality of 28 years ago' appeared in Government Computing (May 2000) and describes the central role of GI in the Bloody Sunday inquiry now underway in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
