~ Leading fleet car services company launches new online vehicle rental and management solution for the corporate market ~
London, UK, November 21, 2000 - Rubus, "The Most Promising Company in the UK" according to the CBI, has helped leading fleet car services company, Fleet Management Group (FMG), launch a new online business designed for business-to-business vehicle rental brokerage, which is unique in the marketplace.
The solution developed by Rubus, allows FMG's business customers to make, amend and cancel car rentals online, instead of via its existing call centre. Tailored specifically for fleet management, the solution operates under either a centralised model, where all bookings and amendments are made by a fleet manager, or a decentralised model where individual drivers can make and change their own bookings according to a personal set of purchasing rules.
The new business, branded as Satellite Vehicle Rentals, will provide FMG's customers with a Web interface that incorporates rules specific to each organisation, to simplify car rental bookings over the Internet. Acting as an electronic broker between customers and suppliers, is a sophisticated, intelligent 'Auto Allocation Engine' that matches a customer's requirements with the most suitable supplier and gives the best choice. Examples of factors that are dynamically taken into consideration and balanced by the engine include:
* The distance from the supplier's outlet to the customer
* The hours in which it hires out cars
* What cars are available at the time of booking
* If there are any suppliers that the customer does not wish to hire from
Nick Brown, FMG's CEO commented, "During the latter part of 1999, I determined that the fleet car market was ready, and would accept, a business-to-business Internet initiative, due to the high uptake of Internet adoption. We chose to work with Rubus to develop the initial proposition and to create a sound and tested business model with the buy-in of a range of suppliers and customers."
Nicky Greenburg, client partner at Rubus added, "During the first stage of the work, Rubus held a number of workshops and interviews with FMG's customers, suppliers and employees. From the information gathered, we developed a number of different propositions that were tested and ranked by FMG stakeholders. The small number of solutions that were chosen were developed into detailed technical plans, to offer significant benefits to FMG's customers and suppliers."
Brown added, "This solution will help us to redefine vehicle rental management. Our customers will be assured that they are receiving the best service in the most efficient and cost effective way. Without having to book directly through our call centres, customers will save time and benefit from being able to place an order at any time. The solution also benefits our suppliers who can take advantage of cost reductions resulting from automated receipts and confirmations of bookings which are integrated into their back office systems."
Rubus has built the architecture based on ATG Dynamo, on an Oracle database and also incorporates Apache and QAS software. This technology ensures that FMG has a scalable, resilient infrastructure on which it can build additional services.
FMG currently offers vehicle rental, accident management and fleet management services, plus a range of commercial vehicle services, including 24 hour roadside rescue and recovery in the UK. In addition to FMG's Satellite Vehicle Rentals brand, FMG will launch a new business branded NetRentacar. This will create new sales channels to address a wider base of Internet enabled customers, which once launched in the UK, is planned for international expansion.
