OneWorld Xe's Powerful Solutions for Collaborative Commerce Scale to Meet the Performance Demands of Rapidly Emerging B2B Marketplaces

J.D. Edwards, a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the Internet economy, announced today that the company's newest OneWorld(r) release, OneWorld Xe, has eclipsed its highest transaction-based scalability results to date by using Hewlett-Packard Company 9000 enterprise servers.

Using an HP 9000 V2500 database server and HP 9000 N4000 application servers, OneWorld Xe processed over 485,000 sales order lines per hour, demonstrating that OneWorld Xe can scale horizontally to support the high transaction volumes of B2B Marketplaces. The results of the certified benchmark exceeded the previously announced high-water mark by 120 percent, while demonstrating unsurpassed stability. The benchmark tests simulated the sale-to-cash process, from order placement through fulfillment, offering a rigorous, true-to-life test of the complex business processes managed by today's digital marketplaces.

"Supply chain fulfillment and collaboration are the greatest challenges businesses face when developing Internet strategies. This benchmark, which was much more than just simple order matching, was designed specifically to address fulfillment concerns in an actual end-to-end B2B fulfillment cycle," said Patrick Hogan, vice president of B2B technology. "The outstanding results we received provide exceptional evidence that OneWorld Xe can scale to support the most demanding B2B marketplaces."

Scalability Testing Results

In a joint effort between HP and J.D. Edwards conducted in the HP Development Alliances Lab in Cupertino, California, teams reached the following new transaction-based benchmark results based on the HP 9000 enterprise server running on the highly scalable and reliable HP-UX(tm) 11.0 Operating Environment:

* On the HP 9000 N4000 application server and an HP 9000 V2500 database
server, OneWorld Xe scaled to reach 485,000 sales order lines per hour

* An HP SureStore E Disk Array FC60 housed the database

* HP tested across a range from eight to 48 CPU's on the application server to evaluate scaling performance; and,

* The utilisation on the database server was 80 percent

The test simulated service for 50,000 buyers ordering from more than 5,000 different items through storefront applications. Test results measured the performance of the sales order-to-cash process through multiple warehouses, each with 30,000 possible locations per warehouse.

"As the first supported Unix platform for OneWorld, HP has always had a great relationship with J.D. Edwards," said Nigel Ball, general manager, E-Services Partner Division at HP. "This new performance mark is a strong demonstration that together, HP and J.D. Edwards provide a solution powerful enough to handle high transaction environments, while still maintaining the highest level of reliability. We're very pleased with the results of our tests performed. Since that time, we've introduced Superdome, our new high-end server, to the market, and are now able to provide even greater levels of performance and scalability to J.D. Edwards customers."
