Burnham, November 28th, 2000 - Quest Software, a leading provider of database development and deployment software, today announced a new optional module for its popular TOAD application development software that adds database administration functionality to address the most common Oracleâ database management tasks.

Utilising a simple and intuitive graphical user interface, Oracle database administrators (DBAs) now have an easier way to handle database management tasks such as adding data files, managing disk space, creating or modifying user accounts, implementing database security, and creating or scheduling batch jobs - and they can perform these tasks from within the development environment.

"TOAD is the most popular PL/SQL development tool on the market today. With more than 100,000 users, it ranks as Quest’s best selling software to date and is extremely well received by Oracle developers," said Darin Pendergraft, development and deployment solutions manager for Quest Software. "Given that 30% of our TOAD customers are database administrators, it became imperative that we provide a tool directed toward this audience. With the new functionality, we are confident that TOAD DBA will enjoy the same acceptance in the DBA community as TOAD enjoys in the development community."

"TOAD DBA has a number of specific features that help with the most common database management tasks - including tablespace management, schema compare and synchronize, SQL data load and export, batch job scheduling and management - and it provides the ability to run DBA reports. One of the significant features is Tablespace Management. Once users confirm that a particular tablespace is nearly out of disk storage space, they can log into the database, confirm current space allocations and easily add disk space as needed. Another important feature allows DBAs to schedule and manage batch jobs, such as month-end billing. Using TOAD DBA, it is now easier for them to check the status of a batch job using the intuitive user interface and make required modifications."

The original TOAD development software is such an industry-standard tool for Oracle application developers because its graphical browser provides quick access to database objects and makes PL/SQL editing and testing fast and effortless. It allows developers to build, test and debug PL/SQL packages, procedures, triggers and functions, and it allows users to create and edit database tables, views, indexes, constraints, users and roles. TOAD integrates with version control systems, schema management solutions, and SQL tuning and impact analysis tools.

TOAD DBA is one component within Quest Software’s complete database development and deployment solution, which accelerates development of high-quality applications and facilitates the accurate deployment of database changes from development through production.

The new optional TOAD DBA module is scheduled to ship in December 2000.
