Freeserve implements MGI Internet imaging solution on Marketplace web site; technology gives customers a closer look before they buy

29 November 2000: MGI, a leader in visual media software products and infrastructure, today announced that Freeserve has introduced MGI’s ZOOM Image Server on its Freeserve Marketplace web site (, enabling customers to zoom in and examine products in close detail before they purchase. Freeserve is expected to extend the implementation to a number of its online services over the next three months.

Stratis Scleparis, chief technology officer at Freeserve, said, "We are continually introducing leading-edge technologies in order to improve and enhance the online experience for the current 3.5 million unique users of Freeserve. MGI’s ZOOM Image Server gives the customer the opportunity of seeing exactly what they are buying - similar to being in a retail store - but with the convenience of browsing and ordering online."

Stephen Mold, UK general manager, MGI Software, said, "One of the keys to customer satisfaction on the web is providing a pleasant and user-friendly shopping experience combined with comprehensive information on the products for sale. Customers are able to ‘touch and feel’ a product by zooming and panning quickly, while simultaneously obtaining all the factual information they need, such as the functions on a phone, by examining the object up close. The result is a far more informed purchase decision for the customer."

About MGI ZOOM Image Server

MGI ZOOM Image Server software is an Internet imaging platform that integrates with existing web infrastructures to manage and serve up all images that display on a web site. It is particularly ideal for any site where images play a critical role in influencing purchasing decisions. The platform has a modular architecture that enables e-businesses to plug in a myriad of Internet imaging applications that can increase online sales, reduce product returns and retain customers. MGI’s Internet imaging technologies are used by well-known e-tailers, stock photography sites, in business-to-business online marketplaces, and in estate agency and travel and tourism sectors.
