Twickenham, London, December 4, 2000. Leading European venture capital incubator Speed Ventures has invested in state-of-the-art IP-based PBX technology to address the complex communications requirements of its London and Madrid offices. The two systems each comprise ICS Advent servers running Windows NT, Artisoft's TeleVantage communications server software and Intel Dialogic ISDN computer telephony platforms. The installation was handled by Connaught, a Twickenham, London-based reseller of converged technology solutions.

The digital communications servers each provide phone, voice mail, CTI-driven 'screen pop' and fax functionality from a single technology platform. They are connected both to Speed Ventures' IP-based Virtual Private Network as well as to each offices' Intranet. These IP connections enable Speed Ventures employees to:

* access and listen to their voice mail messages from within their Microsoft Outlook inboxes
* dial phone numbers from their PCs, and
* receive Outlook 'screen pops' of callers' details on their PCs as calls are delivered to their phones.

A range of off-the-shelf analog and DECT phones are used to make and receive calls.

The first TeleVantage system was installed in the Covent Garden, London office in May 2000 and currently serves around 30 Speed Ventures phone users and around 70 within the incubation companies. The Madrid system was installed in September 2000. Each phone extension has its own DDI number.

The initial order was placed following a review of several phone switches. "The nature of our business, with companies constantly coming and going, meant we needed a flexible solution and it was obvious to us from the outset that an NT-based product was going to offer many advantages" said Chris Jones, IT Operations Manager at Speed Ventures. "For the range of services offered, the TeleVantage system also offered good value for money".

"We've been very pleased with the performance of our London system. Installation was extremely smooth and both users and administrators find it easy-to-use and flexible. This experience convinced us to install a second TeleVantage system in our Madrid office. We would have no problem recommending Connaught in the future".

"Software companies have spoken about the possible business advantages of IP-based software PBXs for years. TeleVantage delivers on these promises" claims Mickel Bak, Managing Director of Connaught. "The fact that TeleVantage is Windows NT and built on open standard hardware and software meant it could be easily integrated into Speed Ventures networks in a way that wouldn't have been possible using proprietary telephone switch technologies".
