Adaptive Accounting is giving away a FREE 163-page Macro Cookbook with every copy of Accounting Office - the first low-cost accountancy package designed to integrate seamlessly with Microsoft Excel, Word and other VBA-enabled applications. Also available as a FREE download from Adaptive Accounting’s web site - www.adaptiveaccounting.com - the new Cookbook is packed full of macros designed to radically improve the productivity of SMEs by aiding the smooth exchange of data between standard business applications and Accounting Office. A macro is a piece of computer code that can be used to automate repetitive processes.
Heralded as ‘a recipe for success’, by Ralph Gillies, Product Manager, Adaptive Accounting, the new macro recipes are designed to appeal to accountants and non-accountants alike. Examples include, a macro for Departmental Managers preparing budgets for transferring information from nominal ledgers to Microsoft Excel spreadsheets; a macro for staff charged with the task of emailing customers that allows users to transfer customer details from Accounting Office into Microsoft Outllook; and a macro for marketing departments for transferring customer details from Accounting Office into Microsoft Access.
Continuing, Gillies, explained why Adaptive Accounting is making the Macro Cookbook so widely available: "It seems the obvious thing to do. One of the main reasons for producing the Macro Cookbook is to make users of Accounting Office aware of the benefits and flexibility of Visual Basic for Applications - the code used in all Microsoft Office applications. Another reason is simply educational; macros make life much easier when they are used effectively and we believe this book will not only help users achieve that, but also help them to formulate their own ideas. In either event, it means they will be maximising their use of Accounting Office, and the immense amount it can offer, to the fullest extent."
Aware that many in the SME market do not have the resources to employ IT personnel, Adaptive Accounting has done all it can to make this publication a useful introduction to VBA, although it does not purport to be a programming reference manual. Some fundamentals of VBA are included, as is an all-important section on how to run macros.
With the development by Microsoft of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), however, a fully-fledged macro programming language has been used in Accounting Office and macros can be developed that do far more than automate simple tasks.
As a further aid to Accounting Office customers, Adaptive Accounting has included extra macros on the Accounting Office CD-ROM, and will also be posting them on its web-site. As part of an on-going customer education and user-benefit programme, users will be encouraged to post their own macros on the site, in order to build up a valuable database of ideas and VBA code for all users of Accounting Office.
