Boston, Atlanta, and New York City Targeted Metropolitan Markets For Multi-Tiered Services

RC Networks, Inc., a leading provider of DSL-driven, high-speed Internet access products for multi-tenant office buildings, announced today that Edge Connections, Inc., a leading full-service broadband communications provider, has selected RC Networks' RC8000 SDSL access concentrators and RC2000 Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for its multi-tenant unit deployments in commercial office buildings nationwide in the US. Edge Connections provides low-cost Internet access, voice, data, video and e-commerce capabilities to small and medium-sized businesses in major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C., Boston, New York City and Atlanta, where the company is headquartered. The company is currently conducting an aggressive rollout programme designed to bring DSL service to 24 markets in 36 months.

"Edge Connections is excited to announce a partnership with RC Networks," said James F. McKenna, president and chief executive officer of Edge Connections. "With the introduction of the RC Networks RC8000Plus product line, we continue an aggressive national rollout of our powerful and incomparable network architecture. As a result, Edge Connections delivers 100 percent qualified DSL, which circumvents the technical barriers of the Central Office (CO)-based model. Today, these barriers prevent nearly 70 percent of the small and mid-sized business tenants residing within multi-tenant properties from taking advantage of DSL technology. Our strategic partnership with RC Networks enables Edge Connections to deliver a full suite of broadband products and e-services to these under-served tenants - a community that has been overlooked since the U.S. Telecommunications Act of 1996."

Edge Connections delivers broadband capabilities by placing DSL equipment in each multi-tenant office building, transforming that building's existing telephone wiring into a broadband network capable of running at speeds up to 6 Mbps. Its rapid deployment process can make any building ready in roughly two hours.

MTU Market Expansion

According to a recent industry report by Cahners In-Stat Group, projected revenue for the U.S. multi-tenant unit (MTU) market is expected to have an annual compound growth rate of 51 percent, increasing from $372 million in 2000 to $2 billion in 2004. Cahners also predicts that the number of DSL lines will increase from 1,447,000 in 1999 to 16,693,00 lines in 2003 worldwide.

"Our partnership with Edge Connections is a major step in strengthening our leadership position in providing the best in-building solutions for the MTU market," said Jerry A. Dusa, president and chief executive officer of RC Networks. "At a time when so many DSL services are over hyped and actually unavailable, we're confident that our combined efforts will provide these increasingly demanded services in a timely and cost effective manner for business tenants today and in the future."

The RC8000Plus product family is a comprehensive line of next generation SDSL access concentrators that enables service providers to deliver value-added services such as Internet access, VoDSL, VoIP, video and VPN in one easy-to-install package. It offers advanced features that provide bandwidth flexibility, AnyPair technology that delivers in-building SDSL access over any in-use telephone wires, support for any available network access service such as Frame Relay or ATM, and simultaneous support for Layer2 switching and Layer3/4 IP QoS routing, which gives service providers the capability to offer a broad range of advanced business services.
