ID Data plc, the fast-growing supplier of secure transaction systems and card services, has won a two year contract worth £2.4m to supply the Automobile Association (AA), the UK’s largest motoring organisation, with over seven million magnetic stripe plastic cards a year, plus additional database, mailing and text management services.

The AA has been working with ID Data for over a year and has now decided to switch to the Company for their entire card supply and personalisation for Personal Membership, the mainstay of the organisation’s business.

Aside from the seven million mag-stripe cards carrying encoded customer information, ID Data are also supplying the AA with sophisticated mail sorting, database reporting and text management services for the association’s high-level direct mailing requirements. On average, this is around 150,000 packs a week mailed to customers, containing a letter and/or carrier with up to four cards and six inserts.

Peter Cox, CEO of ID Data plc, said: "We are delighted the AA has entered into contract with ID Data for two years and look forward to helping them deliver increasingly tailored, personalised services to their loyal and growing customer base."

Paul Darmody, the AA’s Retention and Marketing Operations Manager, said: "We chose ID Data as they provided a one-stop solution for all our card personalisation needs, from manufacture to mailing, as well as delivering significant cost savings."

Notes to editors:

In addition to the traditional magnetic-stripe card market; the market for smart cards is growing strongly as the range of users and the technological capabilities of the cards increase, thereby leading to more companies adopting a strategy involving the use of smart card solutions. This is of particular relevance to the banking and financial services sector and the e-business sector where security of information becomes of paramount importance.

In addition to the supply of smart cards, ID Data also supplies the software applications that run on the cards and the supporting systems for ensuring secure transactions using advanced cryptography. The Company also supplies conventional magnetic cards for telephony, banking and retail customers, both in the UK and overseas.
