Zero Waste Scotland cleans up financial data with Advanced

Ian Bryce, Zero Waste Scotland

Zero Waste Scotland has turned to software and services provider Advanced to implement a superior financial and project information system as it heads toward building a more sustainable Scotland. This new move comes hot on the heels of the Scottish Government winning The Circulars 2017, an award that celebrates the strides made in the move away from the nation’s disposable culture.

Zero Waste Scotland, which is funded to support delivery of the Scottish Government’s circular economy strategy and the EU’s Europe 2020 growth strategy, selected OpenAccounts as part of a multi-year agreement to make managing core financials more efficient.

Ian Bryce, Zero Waste Scotland’s finance manager, said: “We were looking for a finance system that can grow with us and meet our needs as an ambitious organisation. We looked at a number of options and OpenAccounts was a clear stand out, offering us a system that’s modern, flexible and intuitive for a diverse range of users. We’re looking forward to rolling it out as soon as possible.”

OpenAccounts will enable Zero Waste Scotland’s users to easily record and manage purchase commitments and invoices, monitor spend against budget over multiple financial years, and review forecast spend based on readily updated delivery dates for key milestones. It will also allow them to easily share financial insight both internally and externally – something which is crucial for the government-funded organisation.

“Zero Waste Scotland plays a leading role in the development of a circular economy. With bold targets for reducing waste, it requires a resilient system that can improve the way finances and projects are managed in the long-term. OpenAccounts will give its users greater visibility across the organisation and it will keep pace with their need for tighter financial control as the circular economy in Scotland grows,” comments Jon Wrennall, Chief Technology Officer, Advanced.

Zero Waste Scotland will use OpenAccounts to manage its core financial operations, with the project scheduled to go live this early summer
