MGS Progetti Kitchen & Bathroom Taps Conform to New NSF 61 Annex G 'No Lead' Standard

Stainless Steel FW Tap from MGS

MGS Conform to New NSF 61 Annex G ‘No Lead’ Standard

MGS Progetti, the luxury Italian tap, shower and bathroom accessories brand has become one of the very first European kitchen and bathroom product manufacturers to be awarded prestigious ‘Annex G’ conformity by the US-based, but globally-recognised NSF International.

Annex G is a new section of the NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Drinking Water System Components -- Health Effects that includes the requirement for the maximum lead content of taps, valves, water fittings and any other products that come into contact with drinking water to be just ≤ 0.25 percent.

MGS has always been committed to manufacturing in stainless steel since its inception in 1999 and as such, Annex G conformity was a given. MGS managing director, Stephen Rinaldi says,

“Annex G is currently a bigger topic stateside than here in Europe, but NSF is a very credible organization, and it is inevitable that the ‘ripples’ of influence will be felt internationally over the next few years. MGS is a niche brand, but we pride ourselves on being forward-thinking and our manufacturing commitment has always been to stainless steel and stainless steel alone. The lead debate aside, stainless steel is of exceptional quality and also a good eco-choice.”

Meanwhile, Bob Ferguson, Vice President of NSF Water Systems commented,

“I would like to congratulate MGS Progetti for setting an industry example by having their stainless steel products certified by NSF.”

Standard 61/Annex G - Further information

NSF 61 additionally includes testing to ensure that no contaminants leach from the product into drinking water at unsafe levels. This includes both metallic contaminants like lead and nickel as well as organic contaminants.

The new lead content requirements in Annex G are scheduled to take effect in the USA from January 2010. The annex was developed by the NSF’s Lead Task Group with guidance from key regulators, proponents of the California Lead Bill, industry representatives and the NSF Standard 61 Joint Committee. The NSF Joint Committee is comprised of equal representation from public health, user communities and industry.
